The Challenge: A Solo Creative Ecosystem

Usually, a book of this caliber requires a team: a writer, an editor, a cover artist, and a typesetter. For After Life, I undertook the challenge of executing the entire creative pipeline solo. My goal was to dissolve the barrier between the narrative and the visual experience. The story follows Joshua, the last man on Earth, as he navigates a world reclaimed by silence and nature. I needed the physical book to feel like an artifact from that world, dusty, organic, and heavy with time.

The Concept: The cover is a psychological map of the protagonist. It features a dual-portrait composition intertwined with organic roots and branches, symbolizing the central theme: humanity being reclaimed by nature.

The Palette: I deliberately avoided the standard "cold blue" palette often found in sci-fi. Instead, I utilized a warm, earthy scheme of sepias, ochres, and deep browns. This evokes the feeling of a world that has "dried up" rather than frozen over.

The Details: Background elements include faint clock gears and Roman numerals, hinting at the time-loop mechanics of the plot. The typography uses wide tracking to suggest vast, empty space, mirroring Joshua’s isolation.

Global Distribution

After Life was successfully launched and distributed globally. By maintaining 100% creative control, I ensured that the final product was exactly as envisioned in the first draft. The project stands as a testament to the power of interdisciplinary design, where words and images are not separate entities, but threads of the same fabric.
